At the request of one of my readers, I am making a short tutorial on how to burn activate.iso on Mac OS X. This is a fairly simple process, however I will cover it in as much detail as possible.

Tools Needed:

The activate.iso file ( Download )
Disk Utility (  Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility )
A Blank Dual Layer DVD

The Tutorial:

Download the activate.iso file from the above list of tools. Once downloaded, you need to extract it, since it will be in a compressed zip format.

Open Disk Utility ( Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility ) – you should see a screen similar to the below

Click on Burn, you will see a browse window similar to the image below, browse to the location where you downloaded and extracted the activate.iso file. Highlight activate.iso, then click on Burn.

After clicking on Burn, the browse dialog will disappear and you will see a new window, similar to the following image. At this point you will need to insert your disk. When Disk Utility recognizes that a blank dual layer disk has been inserted, it will enable the Burn button. All you need to do now is click Burn.

After the burn has completed you will most likely need to reboot your Mac to remove the disk since for me anyway OS X did not recognize that there was a disk in the drive after the burn completed and therefore did not let me eject the disk while I was in the operating system. So what you need to do is reboot your Mac and eject the disk using the eject button before your Mac boots back up completely.

So that’s it for the tutorial, nothing special, just use good old Disk Utility to burn and you’re all set.

So apparently there are some tutorials floating around that show you how to convert wave 4 games to wave 3 games. What most of them don’t tell you is that by doing this, you are setting yourself up to get banned from Xbox Live.

Patience truly is a virtue here. I know everyone is eager to play Tekken 6 and a few of the other wave 4 releases. I honestly don’t see problem with it as long as you play those games offline. Is it really worth the risk of getting banned ?

For those of you that absolutely must play wave 4 games, I have listed the tutorial for you below on how to convert wave 4 games to wave 3 games, but again please don’t play on Live with these games because there is a very good chance that you will get banned. What this hack does is it uses a wave 3 video file and since the sizes between the wave 4 and wave 3 video files differ, you will receive CRC errors in abgx360.

Here’s the tutorial:

You’ll need the following software:

• Xbox Backup Creator 2.9 ( Download Windows )
• abgx360 ( Download Mac | Download Windows )
• The wave 3 to wave 4 pack ( Download )

NOTE: You can use either Xbox Backup Creator or abgx360 to patch the wave 4 game to a wave 3 game. I’ve put together 2 tutorials. One using Xbox Backup Creator to patch and then abgx360 for verification. The other one is at the bottom and uses abgx360 for both patching and verification.

Using Xbox Backup Creator

1. Under Action, change it from extract to inject
2. Click on PFI Sector and choose the ISO of the game and then choose the PFI file provided with the wave 4 to wave 3 packs.
3. Click on Video Section and choose your game ISO and then choose the provided video file
4. That’s it for Xbox Backup Creator

Using abgx360

1. Open your ISO
2. Put check marks in the following on the Options Tab
   Check/Create .dvd file
   Check Stealth
   Verify is Stealth Passes
   Check/Fix Video padding
   Use Colors
   Check for updates
   Check Game Partition CRC when needed
3. On the Manually Patch or Extract Files Tab make sure nothing is selected.
4. On the AutoFix Tab Check Mark the following
   Adjust angle 359 for iXtreme < v1.4
   Fix C/R Table if data is invalid
   Adjust angles that deviate more than 3 degrees from their CCRT targets
   AutoFix Threshold – Level 3
5. On the Misc Tab
   SplitVid: Add it if it doesn’t exist or isn’t valid
   Images: Extract images when using HTML output
6. Click on Launch
7. abgx360 will most definitely present you with CRC errors because the game is no longer stock.
8. When abgx360 has completed you can go ahead and burn your game using the regular burning method

Using Only abgx360 to perform the hack and verify

1. Open your ISO
2. Put check marks in the following on the Options Tab
   Check/Create .dvd file
   Check Stealth
   Verify is Stealth Passes
   Check/Fix Video padding
   Use Colors
   Check for updates
   Check Game Partition CRC when needed
3. On the Manually Patch or Extract Files Tab do the following
   Check Patch even if stealth passes
   Check Patch even if these files are invalid
   Check Patch Video
   Check Patch PFI
4. Still on the Manually Patch or Extract Files Tab, next to Patch Video you should see an empty text box and a gray button with 3 dots, click on that button and choose the Video File from the pack. Do the same thing for Patch PFI and choose the PFI file from the pack
5. On the AutoFix Tab Check Mark the following
   Adjust angle 359 for iXtreme < v1.4
   Fix C/R Table if data is invalid
   Adjust angles that deviate more than 3 degrees from their CCRT targets
   AutoFix Threshold – Level 3
6. On the Misc Tab
   SplitVid: Add it if it doesn’t exist or isn’t valid
   Images: Extract images when using HTML output
7. Click on Launch and wait for abgx360 to finish patching the ISO when abgx360 reads Press any key to exit … then it has completed patching.
8. You can now close abgx360 and re-open it to verify that the ISO is indeed a wave 3 now.

I myself haven’t tried this particular tutorial, I just placed it here from gathering bits and pieces online. I would urge you to do this as a last resort and remember not to play these modified / downgraded to wave 3 games on Live.

I recently acquired a white G3 eMac with a 17 inch screen and thought it would be perfect to put into my daughters room. Unfortunately the eMacs didn’t come with built in airports, so no wireless. I looked around online for wireless cards that would work with a Mac and found that they are quite expensive.

Instead of purchasing a wireless adapter online, I went to Wal-Mart and bought a Belkin Wireless USB adapter. After getting home and opening the box, I noticed that there are no Mac drivers on the included CD, furthermore after searching Belkin’s website returned no results for any available Mac drivers for this particular adapter.

After some more searching on google, I found a few sites with drivers for this card for a Mac, but only to find out that there are multiple versions of this particular card. You can use the version matrix below to determine your version.

Version 1 – FCC ID = K7SF5D7050
Version 2 – FCC ID = K7SF5D7050A
Version 3 – FCC ID = K7SF5D7050B
Version 4 – FCC ID = RAXWN4501H
Version 5 – FCC ID = K7SF5D7050E

This article will cover installing Version 4 of the F5D7050 adapter. Although, I will also be listing available drivers for Versions 1, 2, and 3. The Version 4 driver may also work for the Version 5 adapter, although this has not been tested, and if anyone tries and succeeds, I would appreciate a comment to let everyone know.

Each of these drivers is installed in much the same way, there is an install file that you run and then restart the Mac when the install has completed. After the Mac restarts you have to click on System Preferences and click on Network. You’ll receive a pop-up dialog alerting you that a new network device has been detected. Apply the change and then start the wireless utility if it hasn’t been started already. Scan for wireless networks, when your network has been found, connect to it.

That’s all there is to it. The install is very simple and straight forward. If anyone has any input / advice, feel free to post for others to read.

So I decided that I would write up a quick tutorial on how to read a binary watch. It’s actually pretty simple after you learn how to convert binary to decimal. Not to worry converting from binary to decimal is easy. I’ll give you a quick example of how this can be done, quickly and easily.

Let’s say you have an 8 bit binary ( base 2 ) number 00010011 and you want to know how to convert it to a decimal ( base 10 ) number. You can write it out similar to the example below.

128	64	32	16	8	4	2	1
0	0	0	1	0	0	1	1

All you have to do her is for every number that has a one in the bottom field add the top numbers together. So in this example we have 16 + 2 + 1 which equals 19. So our binary number 00010011 becomes 19 in its decimal form. This is as much information as you’ll need to know about converting binary to decimal in order to read a binary watch, therefore I will not go much further into converting binary to decimal or decimal to binary.

Most binary watches have 2 rows of lights, the lights indicate a 1 or 0. If the light is on, it represents a 1 if the light is off it represents a 0. I’m going to use the image below as an example:

In this example, there are 2 rows. The first row reads 1011 and the second row reads 110100. See if you can figure that out on your own by looking at the watch. Notice that I’ve substituted the lights that are on with 1’s and the lights that are off represent 0’s.

You’ll also notice that these watches don’t represent 8 bit binary numbers. This is o.k. and doesn’t pose a problem whatsoever. Either you can read from right to left or you can add leading 0’s. For example:

The top row being 1011 would actually be 00001011 and the bottom row of 110100 would be 00110100. Not too bad but it does waste time doing it this way. If you can remember the numbers: 1,2,4,8,16,32 then you’re all set, each number is just a multiple of the previous one. So knowing these numbers, we would read the lights from right to left. Starting with the top row, the light is on so it has a value of 1, the 2nd light is on so it has a value of 2 and the 4th light is on, so it has a value of 8. If we add these numbers together we get 11 and that would be the hour of the time. Now for the bottom row, The first and second light are off so they don’t get a value the third light is on so it has a value of 4. The fifth light is on and thus has a value of 16 and the sixth light is on giving it a value of 32 if we add all of these number together: 4 + 16 + 32 we get 52 which is the minutes. So the time that this binary watch is displaying is 11:52

It may seem like a difficult task at first but the more you use it, the easier it will get. Just think about it this way, we were all raised on base 10 system growing up. So for all the years in our life we’ve been using this base 10 system, trying to get used to a base 2 system for every day use is not simple but can be achieved with patience and practice.

On a side note, as I was writing this post, I thought it would be cool to make a dashboard widget of a Binary Watch for Mac OS X. I’ve actually finished developing it before I finished writing this post. You can download the widget from my Projects Page. Let me know what you guys think. So, you have an iPhone and apart from the many different apps you can download and things you can do with your iPhone, you can also share your current GPS location with your friends. I’m about to show you a tutorial for doing just that.

Note: You will need to have at least OS 3.0 installed for this to work.

It’s actually quite simple, you can do this using either an iPhone or an iPod Touch.

1. Using the iPhone or iPod Touch click on the App Store
2. Click Search
3. Type in Navizon Lite
4. Click on Navizon Lite
5. Click on Free and then click Install

Push the home button and then launch the Navizon App. If you haven’t created a Navizon account yet, you can do it from the first screen or enter an existing account.

Once you are logged in, click on Settings and change Appear Visible to On, this will update your location every 10 minutes. If you want your friends to be able to text you with a keyword at any time to find out your location then turn on Locate-by-SMS and set the specific keyword to trigger the location.

To add your friends click on Buddies on the bottom right hand corner of the App and then click the + icon on the top right corner, enter your email address and your friends email address. An email will be sent with a link to accept your invitation. Once accepted, your friend will appear in your list.

I was going to do a video tutorial on this at first but after checking out Wordpress 2.8 and discovering how easy it is to add themes now, I decided to just write up a quick how to.

So back on Wordpress 2.7 we used to have to download a zip file with all of the theme files archived and then extract the zip file, upload it to the themes folder and then go to wordpress and enable the theme, that’s the short version.

Now on Worpdress 2.8 it is much simpler to add / change your themes. Let’s take a quick look at how simple it is to install a theme.

 

1. Begin by logging into your Wordpress Admin Area
2. Once logged in, find the appearance panel on the left hand side.  
    
3. Click on Add New Themes and you should be presented with a screen similar to the one below  
    
4. From here you can choose to either upload your own theme or search for one on Wordpress. I’ve tried out this new search feature and I have to say, I like it. So lets go ahead and search for a theme on Wordpress. I’m going to put a check mark in 3-column since I want a 3 column theme and then click on Find Themes
5. When the search result display’s you’ll have 3 different links you can click on, Preview, Details, and Install
6. When you find the one you like simply click on Install
7. You’ll get another pop up window, click on Install Now
8. If you haven’t entered the information in already, Wordpress will ask you for your FTP account information. Go ahead and fill this out and click on proceed.
9. Now you have 3 options, Preview, Activate, or Return to Theme Installer, if you’d like to see what your blog will look like with the new theme, then go ahead and click on preview, otherwise click Activate to activate the new theme.
10. Your new theme is now Activated

I think that the Wordpress team has done a wonderful job adding this feature into the admin area. It really does make for a seamless theme installation and leaves no room for error. I am still exploring the new version of Wordpress, but so far I think this is the coolest new feature for Wordpress.

Just a quick note, if you’ve downloaded a theme somewhere else and you’d like to install it on your Wordpress 2.8 blog then all you have to do is follow the same steps as above but click on Upload Theme instead and browse to the zip file you’ve downloaded.

This was giving me a problem some days ago so I thought I’d write up a quick tutorial on how to shrink dmg files on a mac. Why would you want to do this ? Well lets say you are creating an application and you want to package it in a DMG so you open up Disk Utility and create a blank image. Well you can only choose certain sizes. Most of us would choose a 40MB image so we have plenty of initial space to work with.

As far as I know there are 2 methods for shrinking the dmg down to the size of its contents, they are listed below.

Method – 1:

• Right Click on the DMG
• Click Compress

This will generate a zip file down to the actual size of the content of the DMG since free space has 100% compression ratio.

Method – 2:

This method involves the use of the Terminal App which can be found under Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal

• Launch Terminal
• Type the following hdiutil resize -size 10M /Path/To/DMG/DMG_Name.dmg

Code Breakdown:

• hdiutil – A utility that comes preinstalled with Mac OS X, that manipulates disk images, etc…
• -size – An argument passed to hdiutil, indicating that you want to change the size of an image.
• 10M – means I am changing the dmg size to 10 Megabytes, insert your own value here.
• The rest should be self explanitory

So there you have it, 2 methods to resize your dmg in Mac OS X. Thanks for reading.

This is a tutorial on How To Stealth Path your XBOX 360 games on a Mac. After much searching on google I have had a really difficult time finding anything to help me stealth patch XBOX 360 games on Mac that I’ve downloaded from the internet.

 

So this is sort of a follow up tutorial for How To Burn your XBOX 360 games on a mac. If you’ve opened OSx360 and the Stealth verification failed then you can’t burn the game and even if you could, you probably wouldn’t be able to play it in your XBOX 360 console.

This tutorial will explain in detail what you should do if Stealth doesn’t pass verification in OSx360. First you must download an application. The application we will need is called abx360, you can google for it or download it below. This application will fix an unverified stealth patch. ( Most of the time )

• abgx360

Download and install abgx360. Once it’s installed, open the application and then open up your ISO file of the game that didn’t pass the Stealth verification by clicking on the blue folder icon to the right of the text input field. You should have something similar to the below illustration.

Now click on the AutoFix tab and copy the settings below.

 

When you have everything set correctly you can click on the blue Launch button at the very bottom it should turn green when you hover over it with your mouse.

 

After clicking on the Launch button, a Terminal window should open and you should start seeing a bunch of text similar to the below. DO NOT INTERRUPT THIS PROCESS. Let it do its thing.

Notice the lines in Red, the game I am working with has a blank DMI, a blank PFI and my Stealth check has failed. These are all bad things and fortunately are all things that abgx360 will fix for us.

 

 You will notice that towards the bottom you’ll see some nice green lines of text. PFI, DMI, Video and Stealth have all been fixed, now it just needs to verify the CRC of the ISO. Let it finish, be patient this could take a few minutes. Finally we know that the program has finished when we see the line AutoFix was successful!

You can now close the Terminal and abx360. Now you can follow my tutorial on how to burn your XBOX 360 games on a mac using OSx360 and when the Verify screen pops up you should see something similar to the following.

Everything looks good, Stealth Check has passed, PFI and SS Sector Data are Valid, DMI is Valid and all is right with the world. Now go ahead and burn your game and enjoy.

Hopefully I’m not repeating what someone else has already done but like I said, I have not been able to find a good / if any tutorial on the internet. Please let me know if I missed something or you have some questions or need some help.

Burning XBOX 360 Games On A Mac is relatively simple. All you need is the ISO of the game and the right software and you’re on your way to burning 360 games on your Mac.

The first thing you’ll want to do is download OSx360. This application is pretty much automated and handles much of the work for you. You could probably figure out on your own how to use this application to burn your games but I’ll give you a quick walk through just in case.

Download OSx360.app.zip

Once you’re done downloading, extract the file and place OSx360 into your applications folder. Now launch OSx360 from your applications folder. You should see something like this:

 

Once this screen pops up, you’ll need to drag your ISO ( game image ) to the big question mark. After you drag the image to the question mark it will verify the image and you’ll see a screen similar to this one.

 

What you need to pay attention to here is making sure that everything is Valid and Everything has passed especially stealth. If you’ve downloaded an ISO that doesn’t have the stealth patch, don’t burn it or you will get banned from XBOX Live. Everything should look similar to the illustration above.

NOTE: If your ISO didn’t pass / validate everything then follow my tutorial for how to stealth patch your ISO here or everything seems to look good and the burn button doesn’t seem to do anything, then first if the extension is not ISO then you must rename it to .iso and then follow my tutorial on how to stealth patch your game. http://chris-fletcher.com/2009/06/07/how-to-stealth-patch-xbox-360-games-on-a-mac/

If everything looks good then go ahead and click on the Configuration button on the top right hand side of the application. You can mirror the configuration below. Once you’ve set your configuration settings you can close the configuration dialog.

 

If you haven’t done so already, go ahead and insert your blank DVD+R DL disc you might get the following popup, if you do just click on ignore and proceed to the next step.

 

Now you can click on the Burn button, you should get a screen similar to the below. Click burn and be patient as it takes a while to burn a dual layer DVD. I always burn at 4x and the discs turn out just fine. On a side note, I am using Memorex DVD+R DL discs and they haven’t left me hanging yet. You can pick up a pack of 15 at Wal-Mart for $20.00.

 

When the burn has completed the disc usually auto mounts and opens DVD player instructing you to eject the disc and put it into the XBOX 360. Do as it says and enjoy your game

So I went out and bought an XBOX 360 the other day and the first think I did after opening the box of course, is, I took it apart to have a look at the guts. I purchased the Arcade version of the 360 which came with a Lite-On DVD drive, and so the search began.

Being new to the whole XBOX community I had no idea how to go about modding it so that I can play backup’s and the tutorials on the internet are not very descriptive for a new comer. So I found a few sites with some good information and found all the tools I needed after hours of searching.

So now I’d like to give back to the community and write a very simple easy to understand tutorial, as well as providing you with all of the necessary tools and show you how to flash mod the xbox 360 to play copied games. It should be noted that this is an xbox 360 liteon drive mod and wont work for any of the other DVD drives.

This mod is considered a soft mod for the XBOX 360 and will allow you to mod the xbox 360 without a mod chip. This is done by flashing the firmware of your xbox 360 dvd-drive.

Required Software:

• ixtreme_15.rar – Download this file, it has everything we need in it. Thanks to ixtreme we can save ourselves a lot of time.

Required Hardware:

• A PC with an available SATA port as well as a COM ( DB-9 / Serial ) port.
• TX Probe, Scroll down for a schematic on how to build one, or pay me $20.00 and I’ll send you one.

Prerequisites:

• Disassemble the XBOX 360 and take out the DVD Drive – Look for a tutorial on YouTube

There are 4 Steps to this tutorial, they are:

1. Building The TX Probe ( approximately 30 min. depending on experience )
2. Preparing Your XBOX 360 DVD Drive ( approximately 15 min. depending on experience )
3. Key Dumping ( approximately 5 min. depending on experience )
4. Flashing ( approximately 5 min. depending on experience )

Total Time:

• Disassemble XBOX 360 — 30 min
• Follow My Tutorial — 55 min
• Reassemble XBOX 360 — 20 min
• Playing Any Game You Want — Timeless !!

Building The TX Probe:

For your convenience I have hyperlinked all the parts back to their respective Radio Shack links.

Parts List:

• 1 x 10K Ohm Resistor
• 1 x 1K Ohm Resistor
• 1 x NPN Transistor (2N2222)
• 1 x Female DB-9 Connector
• 1 x Male Molex Connector
• 1 x Probe, from a multimeter would be fine.

Tools List:

• Soldering Iron
• Solder
• Flux
  

Optional ( To Make It Look Nice ):

• Enclosure
• PC Board

(All of these parts should be readily available at Radio Shack)

Note: Don’t want to build one yourself ? or can’t seem to do it right ? Purchase one from me. I’m selling them for $40.00 each.

Preparing The XBOX 360 DVD Drive:

Before we can do anything else we need to make sure that the XBOX 360’s DVD drive is half open. To do this push the eject button on the XBOX and after the drive is fully open remove the connection cable from the back of the drive and then push the tray until it is half open. DO NOT RECONNECT THE CABLE YET.

Before we reconnect the cable we need to remove pin 3. This pin controls the opening / closing of the tray. With this pin removed the XBOX will not be able to eject or close the drive tray.

Now that we have the DVD drive set the way we want we can move on to the next step.

Key Dumping:

Connect your XBOX 360’s DVD drive via the SATA cable to your computers SATA port and power on your drive. If you are powering your drive from the XBOX 360, then make sure that you removed Pin 3 from the connection cable before turning the 360 on.

Assuming that you’ve already downloaded ixtreme_1.5.rar we can move right along and open up jungleflasher.exe which you can find in the JungleFlasher .26 BETA folder within the folder that has the extracted contents of ixtreme_1.5.rar

• Go to the DVDKey32 tab and go through the I/O ports until you see the info for your liteon drive under drive properties.
• Make sure your drive is ejected and pushed in half way. Select your COM port, connect your TX Probe and probe to the Tx (R707) point while pressing the Get Key Button.
• Save all the files to a folder

Note: If you get an error saying your hardware isn’t working. check over the adapter make sure everything is correct. try testing it with a multimeter. If all else fails, you may need to buy/build a “proper” max232/max3232 adapter.

If the above step worked, dump the key another two times just to be sure you get the same key! and SAVE ALL THE BIN FILES TO A DISK OR USB STICK – THIS IS YOUR BACKUP LIFELINE.

• Go to the FirmwareTool32 tab and click Load From Dump Files.
• Select the files you saved previously, and chose where to save the dummy.bin
• Click Open Target Firmware and select ix15-liteon.bin which you extracted from ixtreme_1.5.rar. It should show YOUR KEY in the box
• Press Spoof Source to Target and save your CFW.bin

You should now have the keys dumped, and your new firmware spoofed. We can now proceed to the next and final step.

Flashing:

Now that we have everything prepared, we can flash the firmware of the DVD drive. Up until now we have not modified anything on the DVD drive. If you want you can put your XBOX 360 back together right now and it will still work.

Although its almost impossible to brick your drive with this method, there’s still that 1% chance that something can go wrong. Please know that I am not responsible for what happens to your 360. If you don’t feel comfortable doing it yourself then scroll down to the bottom and read my instructions for sending me your XBOX 360 so that I can do the mod for you.

• Turn your DVD drive off and then back on, then go to the MTK Flash 32 tab. select the sata port which displays the info for your liteon.
• Press Lite-On-Erase.
• Once you see the “…” quickly turn your drive off and back on.
• When that’s finished it should display xx72 and some flash information. this means your drive is ready to be flashed!
• Click the Write button. It should flash and verify all 4 sectors. if all goes well you are done!

Q: Can my 360 be flashed back to its original unmodded state?
A: YES! When you get your 360 flashed by me, I will give you a CD which contains the DVD drives original Firmware for that very reason! Please keep the CD safe and don’t lose it.

Q: Do you offer a guarantee or replace my 360 if you break it?
A: No I offer no guarantee, but if your 360 gets messed up while flashing, I will replace it free of charge.

Q: Once my xbox 360 is modded, is there any way I can accidentally brick, break or ruin my xbox 360 or the MOD(or hack) will mess up or ruin my xbox 360?
A: NO. The MOD (or hack) is applied to the DVD drive itself, nothing inside the 360(Mainboard, CPU, GPU, etc) is touched. The MOD is a “Firmware” hack and its physically impossible for it to ruin/brick/mess up your Xbox 360.

Q: Can I play on Xbox LIVE without getting banned?
A: YES! The latest hacked firmware (iXtreme 1.51) offers excellent protection from getting banned from Xbox LIVE. There is always a risk of getting banned, but the chances are very low.
