I recently acquired a white G3 eMac with a 17 inch screen and thought it would be perfect to put into my daughters room. Unfortunately the eMacs didn’t come with built in airports, so no wireless. I looked around online for wireless cards that would work with a Mac and found that they are quite expensive.
Instead of purchasing a wireless adapter online, I went to Wal-Mart and bought a Belkin Wireless USB adapter. After getting home and opening the box, I noticed that there are no Mac drivers on the included CD, furthermore after searching Belkin’s website returned no results for any available Mac drivers for this particular adapter.
After some more searching on google, I found a few sites with drivers for this card for a Mac, but only to find out that there are multiple versions of this particular card. You can use the version matrix below to determine your version.
Version 1 – FCC ID = K7SF5D7050
Version 2 – FCC ID = K7SF5D7050A
Version 3 – FCC ID = K7SF5D7050B
Version 4 – FCC ID = RAXWN4501H
Version 5 – FCC ID = K7SF5D7050E
This article will cover installing Version 4 of the F5D7050 adapter. Although, I will also be listing available drivers for Versions 1, 2, and 3. The Version 4 driver may also work for the Version 5 adapter, although this has not been tested, and if anyone tries and succeeds, I would appreciate a comment to let everyone know.
Each of these drivers is installed in much the same way, there is an install file that you run and then restart the Mac when the install has completed. After the Mac restarts you have to click on System Preferences and click on Network. You’ll receive a pop-up dialog alerting you that a new network device has been detected. Apply the change and then start the wireless utility if it hasn’t been started already. Scan for wireless networks, when your network has been found, connect to it.
That’s all there is to it. The install is very simple and straight forward. If anyone has any input / advice, feel free to post for others to read.
I don’t particularly like ranting and I don’t usually like to talk bad about reputable businesses but my last experience with PayPal deserves to be shared with as many people as possible.
PayPal may make it simple to accept and send payments online as well as giving you several options for withdrawing funds. Don’t let all this simplicity fool you. The fact remains, PayPal is not a bank and your money is not safe with PayPal.
Just yesterday I received an e-mail from PayPal to inform me that my account has been closed ???? What ??? This account has $700.00 of my money in it. Why has it been closed ? Well, PayPal in their e-mail to me says that they suspect that my account may be linked with another PayPal account that has violated their Acceptable Use Policy. Again, what does this have to do with me and my PayPal account ?? Yup, you guessed it, nothing at all.
The e-mail also stated that if there are any funds in the account that PayPal has the right to hold these funds for up to 180 days, that’s 6 months by the way, at which time they will decide if the funds will be released at which point they will issue a wire transfer or send a check. A bank would never do this to you.
It gets better. Supposedly the account that they say has violated the Acceptable Use Policy is in the negative, so after a long conversation with 3 different people at PayPal, they tell me that after the 180 day waiting period, my money may be applied to the account with the negative balance. What ???
I asked them for the persons name that was responsible for making the determination that my account is linked to an account that has violated their policies, they said that they don’t have this information. I then asked them what I need to do to straighten things out, they replied with, “Sir, there is nothing you can do, you just have to wait 180 days”. I then asked if there was anything they could do and they replied, “Sir, there is nothing anyone at PayPal can do”. So I asked, Is there no one at PayPal that has the power to do anything ? The CEO ? Anyone ? to which they replied, “No, Sir, There is no one.” That’s not the entire conversation. As you can probably imagine there were a few more choice word said. All in all the call lasted about 2 hours between being on hold and being transferred around the PayPal cult ring.
I’m done with PayPal, there are plenty of other, real merchants that do not hold your money.
Think about the amount of money PayPal makes, well now its all eBay. So lets do a walkthrough.
- You List Something on eBay, they receive an insertion fee, picture fee, etc…
- Whatever you listed, sold. eBay receives a final sell value fee.
- You are paid to your PayPal account, PayPal receives a percentage.
On top of all that, if its a suspicious transaction, ie ( high dollar item, electronics, etc… ) PayPal may decide to hold the funds so they can investigate. This has taken as long as 3 weeks.
As an example, lets suppose you sell a Mac Pro for $2000.00 ( high value item, and electronics ) so chances are PayPal will investigate. Being that its a Mac Pro, ( Heavy ), you might estimate shipping to be about $100.00 within the US.
So great, you think ok I sold it for $2000, + $100 shipping, $2100.00 in my PayPal account, I’ll ship it out the next day, but wait, PayPal put a hold on the funds because it is a high risk item so you don’t have $2100.00 in your account, you have whatever you had before you sold the item, which might be $0.00
So now you have to wait for PayPal to release the funds so you have enough money to ship the item, in the mean time you try to explain this to the buyer, they get angry and frustrated over something that you have no control over.
By the time you’re done, are you really making any money or would you have been better off just having a yard sale once a week ?
Like I said there are many other merchants that you can sign up with that will treat you with a little more respect and better customer service.
My advice to you is that, if you have a PayPal account and you sell anything or receive any amount of money that you do not want to lose, then take it out the minute you receive it.
If you have been a victim to PayPal or feel like you have been ripped off, post a comment and share your story with the rest of the readers.
eBay and PayPal can go to hell. I will no longer be selling anything
Using your fingerprint to open a lock?! These are all the rage among homebuyers. Would you like to have a keyless lock on your house? I suppose you can always loose your key, but you always have your finger.
What are your concerns? Are you afraid someone may want to chop your finger off to enter you home? Do you feel this is more or less secure than the old fashioned key lock? Are you afraid that someone may steal your fingerprints?
What benefit would you think this has for your children to use instead of giving them a house key? Did you know that you can program people to allow them temporary access during specific times. Who would this be good for? Do you see any problems with this?
Axxis Biometrics has all of your Keyless Entry / Biometric Authentication needs.
What is biometrics? Biometrics is an automated method of identifying and authenticating a person based on a physiological characteristic. In the case of AxxisBiometrics, a person’s fingerpint is the physiological characteristic that is used as the primary locking mechanism.
Why should I choose biometric fingerprint technology?
Fingerprint technology represents the largest and most proven segment of the Biometrics Industry today. Fingerprints are no longer James Bond technology that only the FBI or CIA use. In many cases it is more cost-effective, convenient, and reliable than traditional locking systems. You can use it for your home and/or your business. And you don’t need an engineering degree to make it work!
How will fingerprint door locks increase my security?
Unlike keys, passwords, security cards, etc., your fingerprint cannot be lost, shared, or duplicated.
What are the limitations of fingerprint door locks?
While fingerprint door locks prevent loss and improve overall security, they are not without quirks or exceptions. Specifically, before purchasing a fingerprint keyless lock, you should consider the following: number of users, temperature requirements, cleanliness of fingers, FAR and FRR (see product specifications for details).

Following are this weeks picks for NZB’s Of The Week:
Movie of the Week
NZB: District 9 (2009).nzb
Type: R5 DVD
Description: In 1990, a massive star ship bearing a bedraggled alien population, nicknamed “The Prawns,” appeared over Johannesburg, South Africa. Twenty years later, the initial welcome by the human population has faded. The refugee camp where the aliens were located has deteriorated into a militarized ghetto called District 9, where they are confined and exploited in squalor. In 2010, the munitions corporation, Multi-National United, is contracted to forcibly evict the population with operative Wikus van der Merwe in charge. In this operation, Wikus is exposed to a strange alien chemical and must rely on the help of his only two new ‘Prawn’ friends.
XBox 360 Game of the Week
Guitar Hero 5
NZB: Guitar Hero 5 (2009).nzb
Region: Region Free
Description: Guitar Hero 5 is a music video game and the fifth main entry in the Guitar Hero series. The game was developed by Neversoft and published by RedOctane and Activision. It was released in North America on September 1, 2009 and will be released internationally during the same month. Similar to the preceding title, Guitar Hero World Tour, Guitar Hero 5 is geared towards playing in a four-person band experience, including lead and bass guitar, drums, and vocals. The game is available as a standalone title, allowing players to use existing compatible instrument controllers, and as a bundle that provides these controllers. Guitar Hero 5 adds several new features, such as drop-in/drop-out play, bands composed of any combination of available instruments, a Rockfest competitive mode consisting of several various scoring mechanisms, and both song-specific and general Challenges to unlock new avatars, clothing, and other extras in the game. Many of these changes were added to make the game a more social experience, allowing players across a range of skill levels to be able to play cooperatively and competitively against each other both locally and online.
Guitar Hero 5′s track list contains 85 songs by 83 separate artists, and like previous Guitar Hero games, several musicians with works in the game have been modeled through motion capture for avatars in the game, including Johnny Cash, Carlos Santana,Shirley Manson, Kurt Cobain, and Matthew Bellamy. The game continues to support the user-created music studio introduced inWorld Tour through GHTunes, and additional downloadable content for the game will be made available. A majority of existing downloadable tracks from World Tour are forward-compatible with Guitar Hero 5, along with selected tracks from World Tour and Guitar Hero Smash Hits.
The game was well-received by reviewers who appreciated the improvements in the accessibility of the game, allowing players to immediately jump in and play without spending excessive time in the game’s menus. Improvements to both the Career and competitive multiplayer modes were also highlights of the game. However, the game’s track list was considered to be too broad, that while players will likely find a number of songs they enjoyed, they would also likely enough find a number that they would detest and never play, and some controversy arose over the depiction of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain in the game.
Wii Game of the Week
Description: EA Sports Active is an exercise game consisting of activities that use the motion controls of the Wii platform. Primarily played using the Wii Remote, the game package includes a pouch that allows the player to strap the attached Nunchuk to their legs in order to track their lower body movements. The Wii Balance Board is also supported but is not required for play.
The game features a number of exercise options supervised by a virtual personal trainer including 20 minute workout regimens and a 30 Day Challenge mode that lets players set workout goals such as calories burned or a number of sessions while tracking their progress over time. The idea is that the weight loss will happen on its own if the calories burned goals in each workout are met or exceeded.
The game also awards trophies for reaching specific fitness landmarks such as accumulating 10 total workout hours, working out with a friend, and completing all the exercises in the 30 Day Challenge.
Players are also encouraged to create a custom workout session built around either personal favorite exercises, calorie goals (such as burning 100+ calories in one session), or targeting specific body areas. To help aid in creating a balanced workout, a percentage chart displays how much of the routine is devoted to either upper body, lower body, or cardio development. The intensity of the workout can be altered by changing the difficulty levels of either a single exercise or the entire routine.
Mac App of the Week
Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard
NZB: MAC OSX Snow Leopard 10.6.nzb
Description: Mac OS X Snow Leopard (version 10.6) is the seventh major release of Mac OS X, Apple’s desktop and server operating system. Apple CEO Steve Jobs announced Snow Leopard at WWDC on June 8, 2008, and it was privately demonstrated to developers by Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, Bertrand Serlet. A first public demonstration was given on WWDC 2009 by Serlet and Phil Schiller, Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing.
This version of Mac OS X focuses on improving performance, efficiency and reducing its overall memory footprint compared to its predecessor Mac OS X v10.5 “Leopard”, rather than new end-user features. This is also the first Mac OS release since the introduction of System 7.1.2 that does not support the PowerPC architecture, as Apple now intends to focus on its current line of Intel-based products.
Windows App of the Week

So, unfortunately hackers have found a new way to hack WordPress blogs by way of MySQL injection when registering for a new account on your blog.
Unfortunately my blog was hit, what this hack does is, a new user registers and achieves a level 10, which is an administrator account, and with this account changes your permalink structure. This in turn renders your blog useless when your readers try to click on an article they are presented with a page not found error.
This is the string that gets appended to your article’s URL:
So How can you fix this issue ??
- Login to your WordPress Blog
- Click on Permalinks under Settings
- Change your Permalink structure to what you previously had it set to
Once you’ve corrected your permalink structure you need to remove the registered user that caused the damage. Unfortunately you will not be able to do this from within WordPress, since the user will appear hidden. You can see this for yourself if you click on Users, then look under Administrators, you’ll see that there are 2 administrator accounts listed. Yours and a hidden one.
The only way to remove this hidden account is by using MySQL Query Browser or phpMyAdmin by logging into your servers cPanel or Plesk interface.
Once you have either MySQL Query Browser open or phpMyAdmin you’ll want to follow the steps below to remove the user account.
- Browse the wp_users table in your MySQL Database and sort by ID to see the latest registered users.
- You’re looking for a user that does not have an e-mail address.
- Note the userid, you’ll need it for the next table, then delete the row for that user.
- Browse the wp_usersmeta table and again sort by userid
- Look for the userid you noted from the wp_users table
- Delete all of the rows with that userid, there’ll be more then just 1 row
If you’ve followed the procedure above, your permalinks should be working again and the malicious user should be removed. To prevent further attacks you may want to consider disabling the registration of user accounts on your blog. At the time my blog was attacked I was running version 2.8.4, which is the latest version and didn’t prevent the hack. So maybe we’ll see a newer version of WordPress soon.
I strongly recommend always running the latest version of WordPress, as the newer versions are not just for feature enhancements but provide important security updates.
