Wave 4 to Wave 3 Tutorial & Software Mac & Windows
So apparently there are some tutorials floating around that show you how to convert wave 4 games to wave 3 games. What most of them don’t tell you is that by doing this, you are setting yourself up to get banned from Xbox Live.
Patience truly is a virtue here. I know everyone is eager to play Tekken 6 and a few of the other wave 4 releases. I honestly don’t see problem with it as long as you play those games offline. Is it really worth the risk of getting banned ?
For those of you that absolutely must play wave 4 games, I have listed the tutorial for you below on how to convert wave 4 games to wave 3 games, but again please don’t play on Live with these games because there is a very good chance that you will get banned. What this hack does is it uses a wave 3 video file and since the sizes between the wave 4 and wave 3 video files differ, you will receive CRC errors in abgx360.
Here’s the tutorial:
You’ll need the following software:
- Xbox Backup Creator 2.9 ( Download Windows )
- abgx360 ( Download Mac | Download Windows )
- The wave 3 to wave 4 pack ( Download )
NOTE: You can use either Xbox Backup Creator or abgx360 to patch the wave 4 game to a wave 3 game. I’ve put together 2 tutorials. One using Xbox Backup Creator to patch and then abgx360 for verification. The other one is at the bottom and uses abgx360 for both patching and verification.
Using Xbox Backup Creator
- Under Action, change it from extract to inject
- Click on PFI Sector and choose the ISO of the game and then choose the PFI file provided with the wave 4 to wave 3 packs.
- Click on Video Section and choose your game ISO and then choose the provided video file
- That’s it for Xbox Backup Creator
Using abgx360
- Open your ISO
- Put check marks in the following on the Options Tab
Check/Create .dvd file
Check Stealth
Verify is Stealth Passes
Check/Fix Video padding
Use Colors
Check for updates
Check Game Partition CRC when needed - On the Manually Patch or Extract Files Tab make sure nothing is selected.
- On the AutoFix Tab Check Mark the following
Adjust angle 359 for iXtreme < v1.4
Fix C/R Table if data is invalid
Adjust angles that deviate more than 3 degrees from their CCRT targets
AutoFix Threshold – Level 3 - On the Misc Tab
SplitVid: Add it if it doesn’t exist or isn’t valid
Images: Extract images when using HTML output - Click on Launch
- abgx360 will most definitely present you with CRC errors because the game is no longer stock.
- When abgx360 has completed you can go ahead and burn your game using the regular burning method
Using Only abgx360 to perform the hack and verify
- Open your ISO
- Put check marks in the following on the Options Tab
Check/Create .dvd file
Check Stealth
Verify is Stealth Passes
Check/Fix Video padding
Use Colors
Check for updates
Check Game Partition CRC when needed - On the Manually Patch or Extract Files Tab do the following
Check Patch even if stealth passes
Check Patch even if these files are invalid
Check Patch Video
Check Patch PFI - Still on the Manually Patch or Extract Files Tab, next to Patch Video you should see an empty text box and a gray button with 3 dots, click on that button and choose the Video File from the pack. Do the same thing for Patch PFI and choose the PFI file from the pack
- On the AutoFix Tab Check Mark the following
Adjust angle 359 for iXtreme < v1.4
Fix C/R Table if data is invalid
Adjust angles that deviate more than 3 degrees from their CCRT targets
AutoFix Threshold – Level 3 - On the Misc Tab
SplitVid: Add it if it doesn’t exist or isn’t valid
Images: Extract images when using HTML output - Click on Launch and wait for abgx360 to finish patching the ISO when abgx360 reads Press any key to exit … then it has completed patching.
- You can now close abgx360 and re-open it to verify that the ISO is indeed a wave 3 now.
I myself haven’t tried this particular tutorial, I just placed it here from gathering bits and pieces online. I would urge you to do this as a last resort and remember not to play these modified / downgraded to wave 3 games on Live.

does this still needs the boot disc to boot on ix 1.6?
I just converted MW2 from wave 4 to wave 3 using these instructions and it only boots with the boot disc on a 1.6 drive, if you try to boot the disc by itself it gets stuck on a white screen that says Xbox 360.
Actually, it will only work on ix 1.51, since ix 1.6 is strict on stealth. What you’re doing by using the boot disc is bypassing the strict stealth checking that 1.6 does.
This is meant for people that don’t want to or have no way of updating to 1.6

You can play it online but you’ll get banned, there isn’t any way to convert a wave 4 to a wave 3 and not risk getting banned from Xbox Live
My console is banned and I really don’t care about stealth checks anymore but my 1.6 firmware does. Is there anyway I can convert a game to wave 3 just so I don’t have to use an activation disk?
If you convert the game to a wave 3, you’ll need ixtreme 1.51 in order to play it without an activation disc, because of the strict stealth checking that 1.6 does.
is their a way to stealth patch wave 4 and 5 games yet….left 4 dead 2 is wave 5

ok new question. please answer if you know. I have converted assassins creed 2 and left 4 dead 2 too wave 3. i installed them onto my HDD can I play them and not be obvious too Microsoft that I’m playing burnt games

So chris I found out why it doesnt work for some users only using agbx360. It’s easy! The problem is that u got the Verify is Stealth Passes activated… Autofix on highest level only fixes if it’s not verified. But it gets verified if u check the Verify is Stealth Passes. So uncheck this one and it will patch ur .iso. Then restart agbx check disable writing and u’ll see that now ur good to go.

I can’t seem to find the video or pfi files, I downloaded the wave 3 to 4 pack but all if has is a ppf and exe file.

When I follow these steps using agbx on my mac and then burning with x_360_iso_hacker the disc shows up as a dvd on my xbox. When I press play, it plays the white screen with just the xbox 360 logo, but nothing else happens.
Any ideas?
If i already have a backed-up disk of modern warfare 2 that’s a wave 4 game, and i need to convert it to wave 3.. Any suggestion or a short tutorial?
try it with my advice from my last post steven. Oh and burn it with iburn360 and preset-layerbreak and don’t use the .dvd but the image.
Which video file and i supposed to select in the Patch Video option? None let me select them.
I see that there is a clever program called 360WavesPatcher on Windows. Is there something similar to that on Mac OS?
In step 4 on: Using Only abgx360 to perform the hack and verify, the video part seems a little vague when you say “click on that button and choose the Video File from the pack”. I don’t see any video files. Can you help? Thank you for this.

I burned Dragonball Raging Blast (Wave 4) but I converted it to Wave 3 before burning it… When I put it in my modded 360, it starts to update then cancels and shuts the system off after getting halfway. What does this mean?

Chris, perhaps you should consider working Dan’s correction into your main instruction so that other’s can avoid making coasters?
I’m guessing that it has something to do with converting it to a wave 3. Maybe the update checks for proper wave and if it doesn’t match then it errors. That’s my theory anyway. If anyone else can shed some light on the situation feel free.

I have a 1.6 firmware box. I’ve tried just straight burn the ISO with ISOx360 and get the “clean disk” error. Does anyone know if I will still need to patch down to wave 3 to be able to run. I am not concerned with Live or getting banned(have other box for that).

I have a mac, when i go to select the patch video or patch pfi file, they are both greyed out, so I cannot select them to continue the process. What must I do next?

Hey i tried to make dragonball raging blast (wave 4) into wave 3 and i get crc errors and the game wont burn… how can i make it into a wave 3 and not get any errors, i got assassins greed to play without problem

I believe that the “clean disk” message you are getting has to do with an issue that you 360 might be having, try a different brand of disc. Also, did you burn the activation disc? if you convert down to wave 3 you shouldn’t need it, but I find it easier to just burn it as a wave 4 and use the activation disc.

That error is to be expected since what you are doing when going down to wave 3 from wave 4 is modifying the PFI / Video information. Shouldn’t keep you from playing the game

Hey Chris, can you answer Ed’s question cause Im having the same problem. Im on MAC and when I try to select the video.iso and .pfi file they are greyed out and I cant select them. What do I do?
Nevermind my last question. I changed the “Enable” to All Files instead of *video*.iso and it let me select the video.iso file.

I’v gone through the tutorial for abgx360 to patch assassins creed 2 from wave 4 to 3. I’v burned with imgburn popped it into my console and it just showed the white screen with the xbox logo, recognising it as a dvd. I’m new to burning xbox 360 games and have to yet burn with succesfully. Could anybody help me out with a few words of advise?
