Backup Wii Games On A Mac – WiiOSx
NOTE: This will only work with backup copies of Wii Games, there is currently no support for the internal DVD drives that come standard in any Mac for reading original Wii discs.
In an effort to keep things simple, this is a follow-up of my tutorial on How To Backup And Burn Wii Games On A Mac. I have developed an application that allows you to simply insert the Wii Game into your DVD Drive and then select a location and name for your ISO and simply click on Backup Wii Game.
NOTE: This is an Alpha release of WiiOSx, I will need to receive a lot of feedback as far as functionality is concerned. WiiOSx has been tested on OS X 10.5 and works without any issues. Please leave comments and let me know what you’d like to see in future releases as well as any bugs you may experience.
Just follow the simple step by step Tutorial Below:

Download WiiOSx, extract and then Launch the Application.
WiiOSx - Main Menu
Insert your Wii Game that you want to Backup, Finder should pop up and say that you inserted a blank DVD. Click on Ignore. Now you should see information for Media Type and BSD Name. This information is not important but it should say something other then No Disc.
Click on Select and choose where to save your image and give it a name and then click Save

You should now see your chosen location and image name appear next to the Select Button.

If this is correct then you can proceed to click on Backup Wii Game, you should then be presented with a progress bar. Wait for it to finish and then burn with Disk Utility. You can follow my other tutorial for that bit. http://chris-fletcher.com/2009/05/17/backup-and-burn-wii-games-on-a-mac/

I’m haven’t studied Spanish in a while but I’m guessing you are asking if the App works on 10.4. The answer is no and I don’t have any plans to release a 10.4 version. Sorry

Well, I tried, Chris, but I never even got to try out your WiiOSX program. Every time I tried to insert my Lego Batman Wii Disk (first one I tried) it spun in circles and my MacBook spit it out.
(Oh, and I’m running 10.5.8)
Cheers, I’m still hoping for a quick and easy Mac-friendly way to back up my Wii disks.
I am having the same problem as Dread Pirate Robert, except I am on Snow Leopard 10.6.5. By the way, really handy application.
Really fine, this is the only solution available in order to make backup of your own WII DVD!!!

When I select “Backup Wii Game” It starts saying “Finished Creating ISO” and only creates a zero byte iso file.
Doesn’t work OSX Leopard latest. When I press back up the progress bar flashes up for a split second then disappears. Creates a 0 byte iso file

I am experiencing the same problem as Pete and Ivan. After clicking on “Backup Wii Game”, it flashes “Finished Creating ISO” for a second, but doesn’t actually do anything. No file is generated for me at all. The Console gives me this error:
*** __NSAutoReleaseNoPool(): Object 0x227f40 of class NSCFNumber autoreleased with no pool in place – just leaking
This messaged is repeated over and over with the object # changing each time, and NSCFNumber being replaced with NSConcreteMapTable, NSCFString, NSCFDictionary, NSCFArray, NSCFPathStore2, etc.
Is there anyway to get it to recognize external usb drives as apposed to the built in one. Or a way to change the selected drive?
I’m using 10.6.8 and can’t get it to work. The Mac just ejects the disc when I click back up.

WiiOSx was not designed to work on Snow Leopard. The only confirmed operating systems are 10.5 and lower.

i tried it in my mac and it is successfully creating the iso iamge. my only question is that whily copying it says 4.6 GB of total data. but the created iso image is only 3.3 gb. is it something went wrong?
Well, I have Lion OS 10.7.1 and i ripped an iso from a backup copy without any problems. I’ll try with my original copy and post later…

I am new in Wii and will use your application ASAP. I have OSX 10.5.8 and used a terminal application to make backups of mi wii discs.

Hellow, i have try to do a backup of a original play of wii, first with terminal, getting an dd: /dev/disk1: Input/output error, and then i have found this app, that if i understan well do the same thig, and i have got an iso of 0k, but don’t report eny error. Eny idea? I run 10.5.8. Thank’s a lot

Mac OS X Lion 10.7 – doesn’t work – progress bar flashes up for a split sec and disappears. tested it on 4 games after wiping the kids fingers printers off!

Hi, just a question for you…. you said this works on 10.5….. what about 10.5.8. I tried both ways… through terminal and this app. and both times the disc just gets spit out?
Am I doing something wrong, or it’s just not going to work?
Just curious… it’s not a big deal. I was just wondering, cause my sister wants a game I always play. And my Wii is softmodded and hers isn’t.
