How To: Burn XBOX 360 Games On A Mac
UPDATE: 6/21/2011 – I am in the process of finishing the development of ISO Burn which will be available on the Mac App Store hopefully sometime mid-July. Once the app becomes available I will add a new tutorial on how to burn XBOX 360 Games on a Mac using ISO Burn. To stay current, be sure to subscribe to my RSS feed.
UPDATE 6/23/2011 – isoBurn has been submitted to the Mac App Store, to read more about it and see some screen shots please visit http://empoc.com/isoburn
Burning XBOX 360 Games On A Mac is relatively simple. All you need is the ISO of the game and the right software and you’re on your way to burning 360 games on your Mac.
This application is pretty much automated and handles much of the work for you. You could probably figure out on your own how to use this application to burn your games but I’ll give you a quick walk through just in case.
Once you’re done downloading, extract the file and place OSx360 into your applications folder. Now launch OSx360 from your applications folder. You should see something like this:
Once this screen pops up, you’ll need to drag your ISO ( game image ) to the big question mark. After you drag the image to the question mark it will verify the image and you’ll see a screen similar to this one.
What you need to pay attention to here is making sure that everything is Valid and Everything has passed especially stealth. If you’ve downloaded an ISO that doesn’t have the stealth patch, don’t burn it or you will get banned from XBOX Live. Everything should look similar to the illustration above.
NOTE: If your ISO didn’t pass / validate everything then follow my tutorial for how to stealth patch your ISO here or everything seems to look good and the burn button doesn’t seem to do anything, then first if the extension is not ISO then you must rename it to .iso and then follow my tutorial on how to stealth patch your game. http://chris-fletcher.com/2009/06/07/how-to-stealth-patch-xbox-360-games-on-a-mac/
If everything looks good then go ahead and click on the Configuration button on the top right hand side of the application. You can mirror the configuration below. Once you’ve set your configuration settings you can close the configuration dialog.
If you haven’t done so already, go ahead and insert your blank DVD+R DL disc you might get the following popup, if you do just click on ignore and proceed to the next step.
Now you can click on the Burn button, you should get a screen similar to the below. Click burn and be patient as it takes a while to burn a dual layer DVD. I always burn at 4x and the discs turn out just fine. On a side note, I am using Memorex DVD+R DL discs and they haven’t left me hanging yet. You can pick up a pack of 15 at Wal-Mart for $20.00.
When the burn has completed the disc usually auto mounts and opens DVD player instructing you to eject the disc and put it into the XBOX 360. Do as it says and enjoy your game
I’m hoping that you’ve enjoyed the tutorial and as always if there’s anything I’ve left out or anything that you don’t understand, feel free to leave me a comment. Happy Burning

Guys,
I’m on vacation now until the end of the month. I will review comments when I get back and do some QA on the software and see if I can’t get some of these bugs resolved.
Thanks,
Chris
Hey Chris,
I appreciate this valuable tutorial, I could really use your help. I bought a flashed 360 off of Craigslist (after the great banning) I intend to use this console solely for offline play. I have a mac and I’ve downloaded two disc images, and after scanning w/ abgx360 I burned them on DVD+RDL successfully with Osx360, ISO360, and iburn360. I say I’ve burned them successfully because there weren’t any errors in burning. However when I pop them in the 360 they read as “Play DVD”. The guy I bought it from said he thinks it was Ixtreme 1.4, but he demoed it’s ability by loading up a burned copy of Borderlands, which I’m pretty sure is wave 3 and therefore not playable on 1.4. The files I’ve downloaded all have a .DVD file with them, I have no program that reads this file, but since Osx360, ISO360, and iburn360 all have the ability to set the custom layer break, I don’t see why this would be a problem. ANY ADVICE FROM ANYONE WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED. Thank you for your time
Anything below ixtreme 1.51 will not play wave 3 games, you are however right in thinking that Borderlands is indeed a wave 3 game. Unfortunately, other then connecting the drive to a PC and running jungle flasher, I don’t know of any other way to find out for sure what version of ixtreme you have.
I’m using a refurb hardrive that I bought for it, do you think that would affect it’s ability to play burned discs?
Hey Chris,
I followed your instructions both on how to burn and how to verify the game but for some reason it doesn’t verify the game so i cant burn it… do you have a suggestion for me?
thanks a bunch
Have you tried using my software? ISOx360
Hey Chris,
First off, great tutorial. However, even though I followed your steps exactly, I have still not been able to burn the game. When the game is done, the disc will pop out, and I will get a message that says something along the lines of “burning finished with an error”. What could be making this happen? I don’t really want to try again and was another DVD. Hopefully you’ll be able to help. Thanks!
Daniel,
What brand of disc are you using? and are you using OSX360 or ISOx360? OSX360 is older software that seems to have issues, try my application ISOx360 and let me know if you still have problems.
Chris
I was using TDK DL discs. I was using OSX360, but just recently downloaded ISOx360. I compared the two programs side-by-side and feel like ISOx360 is much nicer, but I am going to wait until I get my friend over to help me, as he has burnt 360 games before. I’ll let you know how it goes. Thanks again.
Daniel
Daniel,
Thanks, I’m thinking that the TDK discs might be your issue, they are a lower quality disc and have been reported to have issues. Verbatim by far have had the best success rate, I’ve personally had good luck with the Sony brand that K-Mart sells. Let me know how it works out.
Chris
Hey Chris,
I think you might be right. I just tried burning a game again with ISOx360 and it seemed to work a lot better, and I didn’t get any error messages. However when I put the game in my 360, it started reading the game and just said “OPEN TRAY” in the dashboard. I will probably buy some Verbatims and try them. I’ve had experience with verbatims and other discs and this is the first time a disc hasn’t worked, regardless of disc type. Thanks for your help!
Daniel
Hey Chris,
Thanks for all your hard work. Just a quick question, does your application ISOx360.1.0.2 Alpha burn the newer Wave 4 games? After they’ve been verified on abgx360gui of course.
Thanks again,
Ben
Well I tried burning my game with a memorex DVD and still no results, and all I get is the Open Tray option on the 360. Any ideas?
Daniel
Do I need a modded or flashed 360?
Can I play online if the stealth checks pass?
how do i get these “disk images.” do i use my own game or look them up online?
Hi!
This app is run only on Intel macs?
mikey,
Yup, only for Intel Macs
Chris
Brandon,
Google is your friend.
Chris
Chris, I’m currently in a bit of a dilemma as far as burning discs goes.
As you know, OSx360 is no longer supported, which was what I used about 8 months ago, but have since taken a break from the modding scene up until now.
I stumbled across your program, ISOx360, after searching for hours for a solution.
I wasn’t sure if ISOx360 still worked, as it hasn’t received an update in quite a while to support the new Wave 5&6 games, as well as the newly released iXtreme LT after the ban waves.
My question is, will this still burn 360 games?
I’ve used ABGX360 and have modified my ISO’s to use SSv2 and SplitVid, which you may or may not know what that is, since to me, it seems as if it’s been a while since you were actively involved in modding, or at least with OS X.
Theoretically this should still work, correct?
All I need is an OS X program that can burn with a specified layer break, at correct speeds, and not make coaster. I don’t need any verification of any sort, as I have ABGX360 for that.
Could you shed some light on this?
Connor,
Yup, you’re right, as long as the layer break requirements have not changed then ISOx360 should work flawlessly. I know there hasn’t been an update to the software in a while as I have also taken a break from the modding scene for a while. Things were just changing so fast with wave 4, 5 and 6 that I figured I would wait until things calmed down for a little bit before starting to update the software.
Let me know how it goes.
Chris
Hi, i made a disc image on toast titanium but i cant get it in OSx360, why
? (sorry for bad english)
i have a already burn game on disk that i got from someone.. if i wanted to make a copy of it will this app do that.. i do have a mac. if not whats the best software would allow me to do this..
What is an ISO file I looked everywhere and can’t find what it is?
Dan,
An ISO file is an image file of a DVD or CD.
Chris
I understand everything you are saying but how do you get the ISO from your game thank you. Please respond
Garry,
Unfortunately that is a more complicated and involved process and requires special hardware and if you are on a Mac it requires special software that doesn’t exist yet.
Chris
Chris,
Please come back and help us mac users with all these new waves. I loved osx360 but its been unsupported for so long new games come up as having a file size of 0 and wont burn. In addition, at least for me, isox360 has not been working as well the bar comes down for like .5 seconds and then disappears and wont burn.
PAHLEAASE
Hey Chris thanks for the TUT really helped out. I got everything going ok except when i go to burn using osx360 it is going really slow. I started it last night and its still writing track one not even 1/4 of the way through?? any ideas??? as to why or is it normal to take this long?
thanks
Hey Chris,
Thanks for your development in this area! Unfortunately every time I attempt to burn a game everything seems to check out until I pop it in my xbox and then it just shows the “play dvd” option and when i select that it says I need to play the disc in an xbox. Any idea what’s going on?
Mikey
i personally think memorexs are a fail i have had no SUCCES AT ALL ON THESE DISC a waste of money im buying verbatims i heard very good feedback everywhere on them
You program doesnt work with wave 6… Can you please update it because none of the burners for mac are supported anymore.
hey chris I am trying to figure out what ISO is and i tried draging the disc in the bar but it wont let me?????
what is ISO
I am working off of a MB Pro- Core 2 Duo (Optical drive- HL-DT-ST DVDRW GSA-S10N- compatible with DVD+R DL). I have been trying to backup a couple games. I have the .iso for the games (Red Dead Redemption, Skate 3). Verified and passed through ABGX360. I am all ready to burn the ISO to a Verbatim DVD+R DL disc. I have tried to burn through your program iso360, it begins to burn but then it says finishing burn a few moments later with no results…???? Tried to burn with osx360 but it gave me a medium write error?
I have followed the tutorials exactly, but I won’t seem to let me burn. Any suggestions on how to get this working? Thanks for your help.
David
tommy,
ISO is a container, think of it as a disk image that contains everything that would normally be on a disc. With the proper burning software it is possible to take what is inside of the disk image and place it onto a disk.
Chris
Lasse,
How exactly did you make this image? The last time I checked you cannot use Toast to make a disc image of a 360 disc.
Chris
derrick linton,
You should be able to use Apple’s disk utility app to make a disc image and then use ISOx360 to burn it.
Chris
John,
Its not normal and definitely should not take this long, are you using osx360 or ISOx360.
Chris
Haruhi1379,
Thanks for the info.
Chris
Anon,
I have not had a chance to work with Wave 6 yet.
Chris
David,
I’m wondering if maybe there is an issue with your burner. Can you burn regular stuff like movies, music, etc… without issues?
Chris
MikeyRocks,
What wave are you burning and what software are you using to burn with?
Chris
Joe,
Development takes quite some time and because I am the only one doing it, it takes even longer. I would love it if the guy at abgx would release some sort of framework for abgx for mac, then it would take me no time at all to speed up development.
Chris
I am on a mac and have downloaded the game files via torrent how do I extract these nfo files in order to verify and burn on isox360?
Shayn,
nfo files are not file that you should be extracting. Usually there are lots of rar files that when extracted you should end up with a .iso file that you can burn.
Chris
By any chance, could you give a tut on stealth checking/patching Waves 4-6? And burning after that with ISOx360 also?
Any chance of a tutorial on how to actually take your physical xbox 360 disc, put it into your mac, rip a copy of it, so that we can then re-burn it to use as an actual backup? It’s great that everyone wants to download ISO’s from tpb & mininova, but I do actually own these games and have a hell of a time finding any tutorials that *don’t* start with “okay so you have this ISO…”. I’d rather not waste 9 gigs of bandwidth for something I have sitting on a disk in front of me already.
Using this method, will they play on an unmodded system? I’m only just starting to get into backing up games and I don’t really wanna mod my system.
Kawika,
To play backups, you will need to have a modded system.
Chris
Charlie,
I haven’t done anything with the newer releases yet so a tutorial is not something that I would be able to do at this point.
Chris
