How To: Burn XBOX 360 Games On A Mac

102

Comodo

Burning XBOX 360 Games On A Mac is relatively simple. All you need is the ISO of the game and the right software and you’re on your way to burning 360 games on your Mac.

The first thing you’ll want to do is download OSx360. This application is pretty much automated and handles much of the work for you. You could probably figure out on your own how to use this application to burn your games but I’ll give you a quick walk through just in case.

Download OSx360.app.zip

Once you’re done downloading, extract the file and place OSx360 into your applications folder. Now launch OSx360 from your applications folder. You should see something like this:

OSx360 Open

OSx360 Open

Once this screen pops up, you’ll need to drag your ISO ( game image ) to the big question mark. After you drag the image to the question mark it will verify the image and you’ll see a screen similar to this one.

OSx360 Verify

OSx360 Verify

What you need to pay attention to here is making sure that everything is Valid and Everything has passed especially stealth. If you’ve downloaded an ISO that doesn’t have the stealth patch, don’t burn it or you will get banned from XBOX Live. Everything should look similar to the illustration above.

NOTE: If your ISO didn’t pass / validate everything then follow my tutorial for how to stealth patch your ISO here or everything seems to look good and the burn button doesn’t seem to do anything, then first if the extension is not ISO then you must rename it to .iso and then follow my tutorial on how to stealth patch your game. http://chris-fletcher.com/2009/06/07/how-to-stealth-patch-xbox-360-games-on-a-mac/

If everything looks good then go ahead and click on the Configuration button on the top right hand side of the application. You can mirror the configuration below. Once you’ve set your configuration settings you can close the configuration dialog.

OSx360 Configuration

OSx360 Configuration

If you haven’t done so already, go ahead and insert your blank DVD+R DL disc you might get the following popup, if you do just click on ignore and proceed to the next step.

Finder Inserted a blank DVD

Finder Inserted a blank DVD

Now you can click on the Burn button, you should get a screen similar to the below. Click burn and be patient as it takes a while to burn a dual layer DVD. I always burn at 4x and the discs turn out just fine. On a side note, I am using Memorex DVD+R DL discs and they haven’t left me hanging yet. You can pick up a pack of 15 at Wal-Mart for $20.00.

OSx360 Burn

OSx360 Burn

When the burn has completed the disc usually auto mounts and opens DVD player instructing you to eject the disc and put it into the XBOX 360. Do as it says and enjoy your game :)

I’m hoping that you’ve enjoyed the tutorial and as always if there’s anything I’ve left out or anything that you don’t understand, feel free to leave me a comment. Happy Burning

Chris, I am using ISOx360 to burn and I also tried iBurn360. In both programs when the burn got to 50% the write speed went to 0. I thought maybe it was part of the burning process until a couple minutes went by. It coastered my discs. What can I do about this? Also it went to 0 before and came back from it, it only went to zero for a few seconds. I might also use OSx360 because the “verify” feature, instead of ISOx360. Which would you recommend? (If my computer would stop killing my discs). I am using Memorex DVD+R DL. My burner is as follows on my iMac:

    PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-K06A:

    Firmware Revision: Q624
    Interconnect: ATAPI
Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipping Drive)
    Cache: 2000 KB
    Reads DVD: Yes
    CD-Write: -R, -RW
    DVD-Write: -R, -R DL, -RW, +R, +R DL, +RW
    Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO

I would almost guarantee you that the Memorex Discs are your problem. I had the same issue when I tried to burn using those brand. Now I only use Sony or Verbatim and haven’t had a single coaster yet.

I use only ISOx360 for burning, iBurn360 is outdated and will mess up the image, OSx360 is outdated and no longer updated and doesn’t verify wave 3 games correctly and has a few other issues.

Thanks Chris, I will try that. Can you add a “Verify” option into ISOx360? That would be awesome. Also, why on the PC using ImgBurn is the Layer Break set to 1913759 and on a Mac it is 1913760? Shouldn’t this be the same on both systems? I used abgx360 and ImgBurn. Thanks!

I don’t see any reason why you shouldn’t be able to, unfortunately I don’t have a hard drive in my XBox 360 so I couldn’t tell you 100% for sure.

If you get a chance to test this, please comment back with your findings so the rest of the readers will know.

Thanks for the great tutorial btw. I have downloaded and successfully used the OSx360 burning software and checked the stealth and verification on the abgx360 for a game. Several other games fail verification and stealth, so I used the abgx360 to patch and the program says all is clear. What do I do next? I drag the same file to the OSx360 burning software and it still says it fails verification. Any suggestions?

    Thanks.

    hey Chris,
great website and software…my question is that i downloaded an ISO for a game, and in ISOx360 it says it’s all good so i went ahead and burned a disk. I’m using Memorex DVD+R DL. it burned up to 25% and then told me that it was done, this both with ISOx306 and OSx360. WIth ISOx360 it told me that everything was good. With OSx360, it told me that stealth had failed, so i ran abgx360 and did the fix but OSx360 still told me that stealth failed again. Tried to burn the ISO again and once again, it burned part of it and quit.

    Thank you
    Manuel

    Manuel,

Memorex DVD’s are known to have issues when burning XBOX 360 games, they are poor quality and that’s why you’re probably only getting to 25%. I’ve had good luck with Sony, the ones you get at K-Mart or Verbatim, you’ll have to order those online unless you can find a local store that carries them.

  13. Chris says:

Depending on the type of ISO, if its an XBOX 360 game then no, you can’t. The XBOX 360 games require a layer break to be set which Toast currently cannot do. You can use ISOx360

    Hey Chris, here’s another question.
When i download the games they come split up in .rar files. One of the games had only a .rar file that i clicked on to create the ISO file. The other had multiple .rar files and i clicked just on the first one from previous experience. I tried ti click on other .rar files but would not uncompress. Also, info on the ISO told me that it is 7.3 gigs and when i open the ISO, it tells me 4.3 gigs and shows an empty sound folder and some files in the Video file. Is that all the ISOs have in them or there should be other stuff?

    thank you

I’ve just burnt my first disk on ISOx360, and everything went fine. The game (Batman) passed everything with a ‘Valid’.

But when inserted in the Xbox (with iextreme 1,6) the Xbox came up and told me it needed an update to play this game… ?!??? I picked NO, and got back to the mainscreen, where it very fine stated that i had inserted Batman: Arkham Asylum… Am I doing something wrong here?

  21. SEven says:

Layer break is no longer needed after 1.5.1 iextreme firmware updates anyways… so just burn away and have fun. This software though, i would much rather trust abgx360′s verify vs this software’s verify.
Abgx uses an online db thats constantly being updated with the latest known retail ss signatures and while burning various games on my PC everything has always worked out, no need to set layer break or anytihng at all.

In any case you should always remember to first do a Level 3 pass with ABGX360 on all your ISO files, have them be corrected, once fixed run it again to make sure the file is intact. then burn it using which ever software. Then after you’ve burnt it, run it through ABGX360 again just to be safe again.
If it fails all checks, dont use it on your drive.

Use ONLY verbatim DL since they are the only ones that work with no fail rates. Every other type of DL dvds, except for 1 other brands are all rebranded generic dvds and therefore do not work while burning xbox360 games.

Thanks for your advise regarding updating the xbox 360. Everything works perfectly. I’m too using abgx360 first to check the .iso, and then using your software for burning. Works very well!

“SEven”: how would you check a disk after it’s burnt, with abgx360? As far as I can see, it’ll only open .iso files etc., not complete disks.

If you double click on the image does OSX mount it ? or does it give you an error, if it mounts it as a disk then the image is fine, otherwise the image is corrupt.

Update on changing media… the change to Fujifilm DVD+R DL worked. With the last batch of Verbatim I have about 50-60% failures, With Fuji now 100% success burnt 10/10 with no issues. Its the Verbatim disks cant see any other reason why it was Snow Leopard. I even tried burning a known working ISO with Verbatim that was successful with the Fiji and Verb failed again.

I have the same problem. I just downloaded this cause the osx360 burn button was greyed out no matter what I did. I took off verification and everything so I downloaded isox360 and I cant even get the image to load. I mounted it and it worked and also have verified it through abgx and its fine. Not like the program would know anyways cause I cant even load it. By the way im running leopard on a macbook. Im new to this so its already frustrating. Those dvds arent cheap if I cant get use out of them thanks for any suggestions

    richard,

Your best best is downloading from newsgroups, sign up for a site like newzbin.com to get listings, then sign up for a news server. I have some guides on my blog on how to do this. Let me know if you have any questions.

    Thanks,

    Chris
