How To: Burn XBOX 360 Games On A Mac
UPDATE: 6/21/2011 – I am in the process of finishing the development of ISO Burn which will be available on the Mac App Store hopefully sometime mid-July. Once the app becomes available I will add a new tutorial on how to burn XBOX 360 Games on a Mac using ISO Burn. To stay current, be sure to subscribe to my RSS feed.
UPDATE 6/23/2011 – isoBurn has been submitted to the Mac App Store, to read more about it and see some screen shots please visit http://empoc.com/isoburn
Burning XBOX 360 Games On A Mac is relatively simple. All you need is the ISO of the game and the right software and you’re on your way to burning 360 games on your Mac.
This application is pretty much automated and handles much of the work for you. You could probably figure out on your own how to use this application to burn your games but I’ll give you a quick walk through just in case.
Once you’re done downloading, extract the file and place OSx360 into your applications folder. Now launch OSx360 from your applications folder. You should see something like this:
Once this screen pops up, you’ll need to drag your ISO ( game image ) to the big question mark. After you drag the image to the question mark it will verify the image and you’ll see a screen similar to this one.
What you need to pay attention to here is making sure that everything is Valid and Everything has passed especially stealth. If you’ve downloaded an ISO that doesn’t have the stealth patch, don’t burn it or you will get banned from XBOX Live. Everything should look similar to the illustration above.
NOTE: If your ISO didn’t pass / validate everything then follow my tutorial for how to stealth patch your ISO here or everything seems to look good and the burn button doesn’t seem to do anything, then first if the extension is not ISO then you must rename it to .iso and then follow my tutorial on how to stealth patch your game. http://chris-fletcher.com/2009/06/07/how-to-stealth-patch-xbox-360-games-on-a-mac/
If everything looks good then go ahead and click on the Configuration button on the top right hand side of the application. You can mirror the configuration below. Once you’ve set your configuration settings you can close the configuration dialog.
If you haven’t done so already, go ahead and insert your blank DVD+R DL disc you might get the following popup, if you do just click on ignore and proceed to the next step.
Now you can click on the Burn button, you should get a screen similar to the below. Click burn and be patient as it takes a while to burn a dual layer DVD. I always burn at 4x and the discs turn out just fine. On a side note, I am using Memorex DVD+R DL discs and they haven’t left me hanging yet. You can pick up a pack of 15 at Wal-Mart for $20.00.
When the burn has completed the disc usually auto mounts and opens DVD player instructing you to eject the disc and put it into the XBOX 360. Do as it says and enjoy your game
I’m hoping that you’ve enjoyed the tutorial and as always if there’s anything I’ve left out or anything that you don’t understand, feel free to leave me a comment. Happy Burning

I am having the same problem as David (Skate 3 using OSx360) but i have no problems burning games and other stuff. I have burned NFS: Undercover and Skate 1 & 2 so far but i can’t burn skate 3 for some reason. If you can can you email me and help me? If not i can just check this.
Is modding required for playing on Xbox Live only? I do not want to mod my xbox 360, so I would be okay with only playing these games offline completely? Any help is appreciated……Is there any way to burn games you know of that requires no mod whatsoever?
how bout some laymen type detail buddy. WE aint all computer geeks
bushmaster,
I’m sorry but if you cannot understand the instructions I have posted then perhaps you should probably not attempt to burn backup’s
Chris
do i need to flash or mod my xbox 360 to play the cames which are downloaded from net and burn using ur application. pls help me
abbas,
You need to flash your 360, and then you can use ISOx360 to burn ISO files.
Chris
There is some guy on youtube that shows how to do it really well. It helped me out a lot. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4baDWZ6cfY
Mark,
Thanks for sharing…
Chris
How do I know that the disc is actually being burned? Once I clicked burn the screen just reverted to “waiting for disc to be inserted”
Mike G,
Which software are you using? What type of disc are you using?
Chris
Hey Chris,
I’ve used OSx360 to burn games for a week now. I’m stuck using my friend’s MacBook Pro because my Windows laptop’s burner is fucked. I had a question about the burn process in OSx360. It’s really weird; I click burn and the screen reverts back to “Waiting for disc to be inserted”. However, if I let it sit like that for 30-40 minutes, the disc ejects, fully playable! Is there anything I can do to see some sort of progress bar?
ElvenMarth,
Have you tried using ISOx360 instead?
Chris
Hi Chris,
I am also not seeing a progress bar when I click burn, just like Mike G. However, if I let the program sit for 30-40 minutes, the disc ejects automatically and is fully working on my xbox.
Oops disregard my second comment
Hey it says my file is 0bytes and is unknown even though i passed it through abgx360 and it verified. Its halo reach btw
aquos,
What wave does abgx say it is?
Chris
hey Chris, I am having the same problem as elvenmarth and it’ll go straight to my dvd player telling me to insert into xbox 360 but when I do that..all its says is Open Tray and when I close it, it says it again…something I’m doing wrong?
Hi again. I insert my ISO in the Osx360 but the programme doesn’t recognize the file as a 360 iso at all. Why?
I used abgx360 and it says everything is ok. May I procede with burning?
Paolo,
If abgx360 says that the file is OK, then you should be safe to burn.
Chris
Hi Chris,
Thanks for a the great Tute…. One question.. how on the mac can I grab the iso from a disc, or can I do that?
Thanks,
Paul
Paul,
As far as I know, that isn’t possible on a mac alone, you would need to run Boot Camp or VMWare and have a compatible DVD drive that can read XBOX 360 discs.
Chris
Thanks Chris,
Do you happen to know what program I can use on Windows to grab the iso and if it works at all. See, I coppied Alan Wake via a backup program on windows. It created an iso like it said it would but when I burned this image to a DL DVD and I put it in my xbox, it does not play. Xbox thinks it’s a DVD.
Any thoughts on this?
Thanks,
What backup program did you use? and what did you use to burn the ISO? Burning a 360 ISO requires a specific layer break to be set.
Hi Chris,
I bought and used a program called EasyBackup for windows. Then I followed your tute here on how to burn it to a DL Disc.
So far I have used 2 DL Discs both did not work.
Any thoughts on this? Does my system have to be modded to play backup discs?
Paul,
Yes, your 360 needs to be modded, sorry, I assumed you had already modded your 360
Chris
Thanks Chris,
No prob man.. Do you have instructions here on how to mod the system or am I missing something.
Thanks for the help,
Paul
Paul,
Yup, I wrote a tutorial a while back, http://chris-fletcher.com/2009/06/04/xbox-360-lite-on-firmware-hack/
Hope that helps.
Chris
I’m having trouble with Call of Duty Black Ops.
It runs through abgx smoothly, but when I insert the file in OSx360 the stealth says it fails ( which it didn’t in abgx) and it disables the “Burn” button. I’ve tried various versions of OSx360 and no luck, they all seem to disable the “Burn” button when Stealth Verification fails.
Do you have any solutions for this problem?
Lance,
Try my software, ISOx360, that should work..
Chris
Hey, Chris.
Firstly, thank you for your detailed and easy-to-do tutorial.
My problem is that neither OSx360 nor ISOx360 seem to recognize my ISO file.
It says N/A in every spot.
Although, when I run it in abgx it says everything is OK.
I tried to burn it anyway and it is burned with no visible problem. But when I put it in the Xbox, it doesn’t recognize it as an Xbox game either. It plays it as a common DVD, although no images appear, only the Xbox logo.
If you could answer my doubt through my email I would be thankful, since I’ve got more acess to it.
Thank you.
Felipe.
Felipe,
Does it have an ISO file extension? Shouldn’t make a difference but I’ve seen weirder things happen. What game is it?
Chris
Yes, it has an ISO file extension.
The game is Kinectimals.
Maybe it could be happening because it is a Kinect game, or not?
hey thanx for the tutorial man, was lookin for ever for a good one and this was it.. keep up the good work
Hi,
It recognizes the ISO, says “Ready to Burn” but the “burn” button is not active.
Any idea what to do?
Good tutorial bro. Question…when I drag the .iso over there’s no data being displayed…I get nothing..
Marc,
Are you using ISOx360 or osX360?
Chris
Paul,
Are you using ISOx360 or osX360? I know that with osX360 there is a check mark you have to uncheck so that you can burn even if verification fails.
Hope that helps.
Chris
but….. how can I make image file for xbox 360 game??????
